SPOTTED OWL
Strix occidentalis 

Found in remote riparian wilderness areas.  While not specifically at trail sites, may be found with some effort in several areas of the Central Coast counties.  See Canyon in San Luis Obispo Co is a possible location. In Santa Barbara County, it may be found in the Big Cone Spruce Campground, a primitive campground on Manzana Creek in the Los Padres NF, which requires about a ten mile hike from the trailhead at Nira Campground.
