The Yellow-billed Magpie is endemic to the Central Coast in Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo and So. Monterey Counties.   It is a common permanent resident of plains and pastures with scattered trees.

Some of the best Central Coast birding sites to find it are:

Monterey County: 
In proper habitat along Highway 101 in the southern part of the county.

San Luis Obispo County: 
In proper habitat along Highway 101.
Big Sandy Wildlife Area
 San Antonio Lake
Santa Margarita Lake 
Highway 58 east of Santa Marguerita 

Santa Barbara County: 
In proper habitat along Highway 101 in the northern part of the county.
Nojoqui Falls County Park
Happy Canyon Road
Refugio Canyon Road, North
Los Alamos County Park, Los Alamos
